Frequently Asked Questions

Booking & Payment: Must I pay all at once?

Not necessarily. We want to make sure you can secure your booking! Depending on how far in advance you book, you may pay in two or three installments. If your booking is made more than six months before your arrival, payment may be made in three installments. The second payment is due no later than 150 days before the experience begins, and the final balance is due no later than 90 days before arrival.  If booking between 90 and 150 days before your arrival, payment may be made in two installments. Within 4 months of your arrival, payment must be made in full when booking. After your deposit has been paid, we will contact you with details of the 90/150 day payment schedule and invoices. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@chateau-love.com.

What if I don’t want to participate in a certain activity?

No problem! You are welcome to stay at the chateau and relax or explore the local area on your own. If you have your own transportation, you can meet up with us during the day if we are already out and about.

Is speaking French a requirement?

Not at all, though it will be a great opportunity to practice! We are here to make your stay as effortless as possible. For us it is a privilege to be able to help with translations, shopping opportunities, travel, and any other challenges that may be daunting for a non-French speaker.

Do you have a good internet connection at the chateau?

Yes! We have a Fibre connection with a strong signal. Please note, however, that multiple guests using the WiFii at the same time may affect signal strength.

Can the chef accommodate my dietary requirements or limitations?

Yes, absolutely, within reason. Meals at the chateau are one of the main attractions of a stay at La Croix Boisée! Local, seasonal produce is lovingly sourced to provide a feast for all the senses, but especially the tastebuds. We want your stay to be incredible, so restrictions for ethical, religious or health reasons are always considered. Dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian can be accommodated if we are advised in advance. However, if you have a severe life-threatening allergy, please bear that in mind when booking. If you have any questions, we are always happy to answer them!

What if I cannot come for any reason?

As we are a small business and we make a large personal investment in our Experiences, we cannot offer refunds. We strongly recommend “cancel for any reason” travel insurance. Travel insurance protects your peace of mind, your investment, and takes care of any unexpected difficulties. Please check the “terms and conditions” for the cancellation policy.

Are your experiences geared towards solo travellers, couples, people of a certain age, women or men only?

Our experiences are for everyone! We are an inclusive home, and we love solo travellers and couples, women and men alike. Solo travellers are encouraged as it’s a great way to make new like-minded friends in a safe environment. Your hosts, facilitators and chefs range in age from mid-20s to 60s. Our only wish is that our guests come with a desire to meet new friends and enjoy the incredible Loire Valley.

Can I come directly to you from the airport?

This is a common question, and it’s very possible, but we do have a little advice: If you are coming from a long distance (Canada, U.S., Australia, etc.) with different time zones, we recommend a day or two in Paris to recover from your jet lag and also – of course—to see Paris! However, if your time is limited, there are direct trains from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Terminal 2 to both Le Mans and Tours/St. Pierre des Corps TGV train stations, both of which are 45 minutes from the station.

What clothing should I pack?

This is purely based on the season and the retreat. As temperatures in the Loire Valley are generally mild, we suggest bringing light layers. In winter, please bring at least one warm coat. To get an idea of average temperatures, check out https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/historyclimate/climatemodelled/marçon_france_2995927. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, though there will not be any intensive exercise associated with our outings. If you wish to enjoy the spa, gym, and pool (even in winter!), don’t forget your swimsuit and workout clothes. Evening meals are often relaxed, but we try to have at least one dressed-up dinner per week. Any themed evenings will be shared in advance. Most importantly, be comfortable! We are all friends here.

Is the chateau accessible?

The chateau was built a long time ago, and there are stairs. 4 of the 5 bedrooms are on the first floor (U.S. second floor) and the fifth bedroom is on the second floor (U.S. third floor). There are also a few stairs into the entrance of the chateau. There is a ground floor “toilette”.

Do I need to bring supplies for any of the creative activities?

Not at all. You’ll need any extra room in your suitcase for newly acquired French treasures (and your Chateau Love gifts!), so leave the rest to us. However, if you’d like to bring something to show the group or just to indulge yourself, this is a beautiful place to be creative, artistic and expressive.

Can I book a private group for the whole chateau?

We’d love to work with you to create a dream event for your group of family, friends or community. Please contact us and we’ll create a special plan together.
